December 31 – today is one of the most memorable and glorious days in the history of the Azerbaijani people – the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis!
The foundation of this day was laid in 1989 with the destruction of the Azerbaijani border between the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan and Iran (USSR-Iran border). The long-awaited march of the Azerbaijani nation on both sides of the Araz – the demolition of the border posts between North and South Azerbaijan, the motto of this Thai nation to unite day and night on the banks of the Araz for weeks to revive the fact that Azerbaijanis are one nation. It was an attempt to unite Azerbaijan. Solidarity Day is a symbolic sign of this desire to unite.
On December 16, 1991, Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Heydar Aliyev, taking into account the importance of creating a union of world Azerbaijanis, declared December 31 the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis. Later, this initiative gained the support of the central government, and now all Azerbaijanis officially celebrate this day as a holiday.
December 31 – World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day is celebrated by Azerbaijanis in more than 70 countries around the world. Solidarity Day has become the most important holiday for the Azerbaijani diaspora, and the New Year has taken a back seat. Solidarity Day is celebrated not only by Azerbaijanis, but also by representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora who were born and raised in Azerbaijan. For thousands of years, Azerbaijanis have made great contributions to world civilization by living in their native land, historical Azerbaijan. As a result of wars, revolutions, military conflicts, various socio-political processes in the world, Azerbaijan has been divided, some Azerbaijanis have been expelled from their homes, deported and separated from each other. There are also Azerbaijanis who left their homeland to find work and education and settled in other countries. Thus, Azerbaijanis have spread from the lands of historical Azerbaijan to the whole world. Today, they live in many parts of the world. Large Azerbaijani communities have been established in Russia, Ukraine, other countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Baltic countries, Europe, America and the East.
